One-off Breakaway Book Group

Hello all,

Giles here.  I have recently been given a copy of The Girl In The Spider's Web, which continues Stieg Larsson's Millennium trilogy.  The first book in the trilogy, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo happens to be the first book ever covered in the book group, back in August 2009 (way before my time!).

This fourth instalment is not written by Stieg Larsson, which isn't surprising as he died in 2004, before the original trilogy were even published.  The new one is by David Lagercrantz.  It came out late last year and had generally favourable reviews.

I haven't read it yet, but I think it may make a good discussion and comparison for those that have read the originals (especially if you came to that first group).  However, I don't think it should be chosen as an official book group selection.  It would be very unfair on those that haven't read the originals, or on those that have but have no interest in this non-Larsson version.

As an alternative, I'm wondering if there's any fans of the original trilogy out there that are interested in a one-off breakaway group, to discuss this book?  It won't replace the normal monthly group and you don't need to come if you haven't got any interest in The Girl In The Spider's Web.  I'm thinking the best time to do it would be in December when we have a Christmas meal instead of the usual group.   That also allows a few months to read it alongside the normal monthly books.

Please let me know if you're interested, either by replying to this blog or by emailing me directly.  If I don't get much interest, thats fine - I'll just read it in my own time and discuss it amongst myself. :)

Thanks,
Giles

  4. Sounds great Kirstie.

As it can be difficult for you to get back from Greenwich late evening, do you think a weekend afternoon would be a better time for this breakaway group?

Sorry you're not up for it Emmanuelle but thanks for letting me know.
